PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team will compete at the 118th EIWA Championships beginning this Saturday, March 5 and running through Sunday, March 6. The competition will be hosted by Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y.
What's At Stake
Wrestlers will be competing to earn a spot at the NCAA tournament to be held March 17-19 in Detroit, Mich.
A total of 42 bids to the NCAA tournament will be awarded by placement at the EIWA championship (two fewer than in 2020). Only the Big Ten (88) and the Big 12 (58) will have more qualifiers than the EIWA.
The top seven at 165 pounds will automatically qualify for NCAAs, while to earn a spot at NCAAs at 157 or 197, a wrestler will have to finish fifth or higher. The top four spots at 125, 141, 149, 174 and 285 pounds will automatically qualify and only the top three at 184 pounds will advance through the qualification process, with just the finalists clinching bids at 133.
Brown EIWA Probables
125: Reese Fry (8-11, 1-3 EIWA)
133: Nicky Cabanillas (9-11, 3-4 EIWA)
141: Timothy Levine (17-12, 5-5 EIWA)
149: Ricky Cabanillas (11-11, 2-2 EIWA)
157: Jack Bokina (13-8, 2-3 EIWA)

197: Cade Wilson (12-14, 3-6 EIWA)
285: Lear Quinton (8-17, 2-7 EIWA)
The Bears will have a lot of new faces representing the team at the EIWA Championships this year, as Ricky Cabanillas, Jack Bokina, and Cade Wilson will all be making their second appearance, but all other wrestlers will be competing at the EIWAs for the first time.
During the 2019-20 season, Cabanillas placed seventh at the EIWAs.
