
Nicky Cabanillas, Reese Fry Advance to Day Two of EIWA Tournament

ITHACA, N.Y. – Brown featured six wrestlers in the placing round and two placed in the top eight to highlight day one of the 118th EIWA Tournament at Newman Arena. Reese Fry (125) and Nicky Cabanillas (133) advanced to the top eight and will wrestle tomorrow at 10 a.m. Both went 2-1 on Saturday to advance to the final day.
Brown collected 26.5 points, good for 13th.
Drew Clearie began with a first-round pin over Sacred Heart's Alex Marciniak and Nicky Cabanillas moved onto the quarterfinals.
Later, Fry won 14-2 over Sacred Heart's Jacob Venezia to advance and Timothy Levine won 10-0 at 141. Jack Bokina won by pin over Columbia's Andrew Garr.
James Araneo (184) and Cade Wilson (197) picked up victories over Franklin & Marshall wrestlers and the six Bears advancing to the placing round continued the opening day of the postseason tournament.
Fry defeated Gio Diaz 6-1 to place top eight and Nicky Cabanillas won by fall over Hofstra's Matt Templeton to move on.
