Five Brown Gymnasts Earn All-GEC Honors, Conference Announces Scholar-Athletes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five different Brown gymnasts have been named to the inaugural All-Conference Team for the Gymnastic East Conference, the GEC announced on Tuesday. The GEC also announced its 2022 Scholar Athlete winners, a list that includes 22 Brown gymnasts.
The First Team All-GEC squad on each event and in the all-around consists of the top six ranked
gymnasts (No.1- No.6, including ties) as of week 10 of the regular season. The Second Team consists of the No.7 to No.12 ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the regular season. Brown landed five athletes on the all-conference teams, totaling eight awards. Each athlete is listed below, along with the event and National Qualifying Score.
First Team All-GEC
Mei Li Costa – Vault – 9.795
Julia Bedell – Vault – 9.775
Mei Li Costa – Bars – 9.895
Taylor Schulze – Beam – 9.800
Julia Bedell – Floor – 9.815
Second Team All-GEC
Angela Xing – Vault – 9.730
Taylor Schulze – Bars – 9.755
Ella Poley – Bars – 9.740
Athletes will also have an opportunity to earn all-conference honors at this weekend's GEC Championship, which will be hosted by Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday. Gymnasts who finish in the top three of each event will earn First Team honors, while those in spots four-through-six will be named to the Second Team.
Brown also had 22 gymnasts named to the Scholar Athletes List, which was also announced on Tuesday. To be recognized as a Scholar Athlete, gymnasts must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or greater throughout the 2021 calendar year. Freshman are eligible based of their Fall 2021 semester grades only.
