Bears Complete Two-Meet Weekend at Harvard and Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brown track and field programs wrapped up competition at two different meets this weekend with the Crimson Elite at Harvard on Friday, and the Dr. Sander Columbia Invitational on Friday and Saturday at The Armory in New York.
Sophomore Evan Sherman took home first place in the mile at Harvard with Justin Hickey finishing third, senior Michael Neary and sophomore John McNeil each earned third place finishes at Columbia, with Neary setting a huge personal record in the shot put. Kendra Ezeama also set new personal records in both the weight throw and shot put.
Brown also had a good deal of success in the multis, with Lily Dumas and Chiamaka Odenigbo putting up the fourth and fifth rated marks in program history in the pentathlon, and Jono Pelusi posting the No. 3 ranked heptathlon in program history while setting a facility record at The Armory in the 1,000 meters.
TRACK
On Friday at Harvard, Sherman took the top spot in the mile, finishing the race in 4:20.40 to take home the gold. He was joined on the podium by Justin Hickey who captured third place in 4:25.87. On Saturday at Columbia, sophomore Jack Kelley set a new PR in the 400 meters with his time of 49.75 seconds.
On the women's side on Friday, Mya Collins completed the 400 meters in 1:02.51. Four Bears set PRs in the mile including Emma Madgic (5:20.48), Emily Moini (5:21.09), Sarah Reichheld (5:26.64) and Maxine Montoya (5:26.87).
JUMPS
McNeil finished on the podium in third place of the long jump, setting a new personal record of 7.27 meters, which ranks as the seventh-ranked long jump in program history. He also took sixth place in the high jump after clearing 2.05m. Zach Love finished seventh in the long jump at 7.09m, and Samuel Hurcomb placed ninth with a PR jump of 7.04m.
In the high jump at Columbia, freshman Lily Reynolds led Brown in the high jump, clearing 1.65m on her first attempt. Rudecia Bernard also cleared 1.65 meters on her second attempt, coming two centimeters shy of her PR.
Lauren Yeboah-Kodie scored team points in eighth place of the long jump at 5.79 meters, one spot and two centimeters ahead of freshman Jada Joseph at 5.77 meters. In the triple jump, Yeboah-Kodie set a new PR of 11.88 meters to finish 11th overall.
THROWS
Neary took third place out of 17 in the shot put with a huge personal record of 17.06m, over half a meter beyond his previous benchmark. Senior Kegan Schroeter finished in sixth place of the weight throw at 18.15 meters.
Ezeama had a strong day, setting a pair of personal records in both of her events, turning in a 13.85-meter shot put, winning her flight and placing 10th overall. She also posted a 15.34-meter weight throw for a new PR while finishing third on the team. Freshman Sophia Galluci led Brown in the weight throw at a personal record distance of 16.24m, and Jae Crawford added a throw of 15.82m.
MULTIS
Brown also had two athletes competing in the pentathlon, with Dumas finishing in fourth place with 3,657 points and Odenigbo taking sixth place with 3,611 points. The marks place them fourth and fifth all-time in program history. Dumas set two PRs during the pentathlon, including the ninth ranked high jump in program history. Odenigbo had four PRs in the five events, including high jump, long jump, shot put and 800m.
On the men's side, Pelusi took home fourth place in the heptathlon with 5,009 points, which ranks third all-time in the event in school history. He set two personal records in the long jump (6.52m) and by winning the 1,000m (2:39.04) in the event, with the 1,000 meters serving as a facility record at The Armory.

Up next, the Bears are scheduled to send athletes to two meets next weekend with the BU Valentine Invitational and the Yale Invite.
