Men's Hockey Falls to #20 Clarkson
2/4/2022 10:17:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 20th-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights (14-7-6, 8-3-4 ECAC) scored two goals in the second and third periods to take a 5-0 conference win over the Brown Bears (5-15-0, 5-9-0 ECAC) Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
"Credit to them, they're a really good hockey team, however, I didn't think we played a tremendous game," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We played so well against Cornell in terms of defensive structure and a high compete level, but I thought we let Clarkson dictate and do what they wanted to do and that's not a good recipe."
In a back-and-forth opening period, Clarkson broke the deadlock with 24.7 ticks left in the frame as Anthony Romano's off-angle shot deflected through Mathieu Caron (31 saves) and over the goal line.
Romano tallied his second of the night 6:20 into the second period, wiring a wrist shot from the top of the slot past Caron with assists from Dustyn McPaul and Alex Campbell.
Just over five minutes later, Luke Kaelble blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle for a Golden Knight power play goal 13 seconds into a 5-on-3 advantage.
Brown responded with offensive pressure following Kaelble's goal that lasted through the second period. Brown's best offensive chance came with 4:58 remaining in the second as Luke Krys hit the post with a wrist shot from the slot.
Campbell scored Clarkson's fourth goal of the game 1:49 into the third period and eight minutes later, Jack Jacome redirected a centering pass from Michael Underwood for his second goal of the season and Clarkson's fifth of the night.
