Women's basketball drops final road contest at Columbia

NEW YORK – Isabella Mauricio scored 22 points and Kyla Jones added 19 but Brown fell to Columbia in the final road game of the season, 85-56 on Saturday (Feb. 26).
Mauricio hit the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season and hit four threes to increase her streak of games with a made three to 20-straight games. Mauricio led the team with four assists and four steals.
Jones tallied 19 points, reaching double figures for the fifth-straight game and the ninth game in her last ten contests. Jones added three rebounds and three assists.
Ashley Ducharme added five points and Maddie Mullin added three with a buzzer beating three to end the first half.
Mya Murray finished the game with a team-high eight rebounds but the Bears were outrebounded 51-23.
The first quarter was back and forth with Jones scoring seven of the first nine points for Brown as the Bears took a 9-5 lead after a Jones three just two minutes into the game. After a run by Columbia, Mauricio hit a three to tie the game at 12 halfway through the first quarter. The Bears pulled within two with a few minutes left in the quarter but Columbia finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 22-14 lead into the second.
Mauricio's floater two minutes into the second made the score 26-18 but the Lions used a 15-0 run to take control of the game. Mullin hit a three to end the quarter, beating the buzzer but the Bears were down 47-26 at the break.
Ducharme scored her five points on back-to-back possessions to start the third quarter and a three by Mauricio cut the lead to 15. Later in the quarter, Brown got the deficit back to 15 after free throws by Jones but Columbia used another run to go up 68-45 after three quarters.
The Bears held a 17-15 advantage in points off turnovers, forcing 21 turnovers. Brown was outscored 42-28 in the paint.

Brown will return home for its final game of the season and celebrate senior day on Saturday, March 5, against Yale.
