Men's Hockey Falls to #17 Clarkson in Regular Season Finale

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The 17th-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights (19-9-6, 14-4-4 ECAC) took a 4-0 win over the Brown Bears (6-18-4, 6-12-4 ECAC) Saturday night at Cheel Arena.
"We're onto the playoffs, I feel good about the team, we made some huge gains and had good growth as a team this year," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We fought through a lot of adversity in terms of injuries, Covid, and guys that were in and out coming off 18 months of no hockey. There's no shame in battling right to the end for home ice, so wherever we go we'll be ready. It's a new season, it's a new start, everybody is 0-0 entering the playoffs and we're confident on the road. Again, I like this team, and I think we have a lot of hockey left in us."
Noah Wakeford had the game's first scoring change 2:40 into the opening frame, firing a quick shot through traffic from the low slot, but Jacob Mucitelli (21 saves) made the save and held the puck for the whistle.
The Golden Knights struck first as Luke Santerno slotted a quick centering pass from Ryan Richardson past Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron (26 saves) at 7:01 of the first period.
Santerno doubled Clarkson's lead on their first power play chance of the game at 9:18 of the first, receiving a pass from Ayrton Martino alone in the slot before beating Caron with a snapshot from the hashmarks.
Anthony Callin found the back of the net on a Clarkson odd-man rush following a Brown neutral zone turnover, wiring a wrist shot through the Brown defenseman for a 3-0 Golden Knight lead at 4:54 of the second.
Matt Sutton nearly put the Bears on the board early in the third period as James Crossman ripped a backdoor pass to the sophomore, but the puck skipped over Sutton's stick and the Golden Knights maintained their lead.
The Bears had their first power play chances of the game in the third period, but were unable to solve the Clarkson defense and Mucitelli.
Jamie Collins tallied Clarkson's second power play goal of the game at 18:21 of the third period, tipping a point shot from Michael Underwood from the left side of the slot.
