Bears Set to Open Season with Three-Game Set at Memphis

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the first time in 719 days, the Brown baseball team is set to take the field with a three-game, season-opening series at Memphis beginning on Friday night.

Live audio broadcasts will be available for all three games. No video livestream will be available this weekend.

SCOUTING BROWN

The Bears will be playing their first game since March 8, 2020 when they fell 6-5 at Kennesaw State.
Brown features a 26-man roster with seven seniors, and a six-member junior class that got 12 games under their belts as freshman prior to the 2020 shutdown. Joining them will be 13 underclassmen who have yet to see collegiate game action.
Brown has two returners in the infield with juniors Ray Sass and Ryan Marra. Sass leads all Brown returners with 11 starts in 11 games during his freshman 2020 season, while Marra made five starts over seven games.
Senior lefty Zach Fogell, junior Tobey McDonough and first-year righty Santhosh Gottam are projected to get the ball to start the three games on opening weekend. Fogell made 15 appearances as a freshman in 2019. McDonough struck out the side in his only appearance to date in March 2020 at Kennesaw State.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS

The Tigers opened up their season last weekend by taking two out of three from Valpo, winning the first two games by a combined 17-3 margin, before dropping the third game 10-8.
DH Jacob Compton is hitting .545 (6-for-11) through the first three games out of the cleanup spot with two doubles and two RBIs.
Batting out of the ninth spot in the batting order, outfielder Ian Bibiloni is off to a 6-for-12 start at the plate with two doubles and three runs scored.
The Tigers hit .327 in the opening series with five home runs, including two from Taylor Howell.
Shamblin, a junior righthander, allowed just one hit over 6.0 scoreless innings in the team's season-opener with seven strikeouts.
Stinnett allowed eight hits and four earned runs over five innings against Valpo last Sunday.

The Bears will head back down south next weekend for a three-game series at USF, continuing an 11-game road trip to open the season.
