
Women's water polo earns two wins on Saturday at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brown women's water polo got its weekend off to a hot start as the Bears beat both Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay. Both Claire Pisani and Lilly Weiser had four goals on the day.
GAME 1 – Brown 13, Cal State Monterey Bay 8
Brown picked up a 13-8 win to start play at the Santa Clara Spring Invitational over Cal State Monterey Bay. Claire Pisani led the Bears with three goals. Claire Poissonnier and Emily Suong each finished with two goals. Suong also led the team with two assists.
Brown began the game off quickly with a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. Pisani scored two goals in the first quarter with Sierra Martin and Katharine Knowles finding the net as well before CSUMB found the net before the quarter ended.
Suong and Bryn Gioffredi each tallied goals in the second quarter but CSUMB won the quarter 3-2.
Pisani scored her third goal of the game 20 seconds into the second half. After a goal by the Otters, Brown ripped off a four-goal run with goals from Sophie Golub, Poissonnier, Dagmara Czajka and Suong to go up 11-5.
Poissonnier and Lily Weiser each scored goals in the fourth quarter as Brown cruised to the win.
Marley Presiado picked up the win in goal with 11 saves.
GAME 2 – Brown 7, Cal State East Bay 6
Lilly Weiser scored three goals as Brown held on for a 7-6 win over Cal State East Bay to close out the first day in Santa Clara. Four other Bears scored a goal in the game.
Marley Presiado and Shauna Franke split time in goal with Franke leading the way with five saves.
The scoring came early in the first quarter with Brown getting on the board 34 seconds into the game with a goal from Weiser. After East Bay scored 15 seconds later, Zoe King netted a goal 20 seconds after that to give Brown a 2-1 lead that would remain for the first quarter.
Claire Pisani got on the board to push Brown's lead to 3-1 before East Bay brought it back to a one-point game. Emily Suong scored halfway through the second and with less than a minute left in the half, Weiser scored another goal to make the score 5-2 at the break.
Dagmara Czajka pushed Brown's lead to four to start the third quarter with a goal but Brown would go scoreless for almost 10 minutes as East Bay made it a one-goal game. Weiser ended the drought with a goal to put the Bears back up two with 3:55 left to play. East Bay scored with 2:36 left on the clock but Brown kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard for the rest of the game to clinch the victory.
