
Women's water polo goes 4-0 at Santa Clara Invite after two wins on Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brown finished up a perfect weekend at the Santa Clara Invitational with wins against Santa Clara and Pacific.
GAME 1 – BROWN 10, SANTA CLARA 5
The Bears continued their strong play in the Santa Clara Invitational with a 10-5 win over the host Santa Clara Broncos. Siena Berry and Bryn Gioffredi each had two goals for the Bears.
Shauna Franke earned the win for the Bears with 13 saves, posting a .722 save percentage.
Brown got off to a quick start scoring five goals in the first period after Santa Clara scored the first goal of the game. Zoe King got the run started for the Bears with a goal 36 seconds after the Broncos. Claire Pisani put Brown on top and Claire Poissonnier added a goal to make it 3-1. With less than a minute left to go in the first quarter, Gioffredi and Berry each scored to make it 5-1 after eight minutes.
Katharine Knowles' goal a minute into the second gave Brown a 6-1 lead before Santa Clara scored its next goal. Two goals from Santa Clara were answered by Gioffredi's second goal and Brown held a 7-3 lead at the half.
Dagmara Czajka scored early in the third as both teams only scored one goal in the frame.
Berry scored her second goal of the game less than a minute into the fourth. Sophie Golub scored the last goal of the game for the Bears to make it 10-5.
GAME 2 – BROWN 8, PACIFIC 6
Brown started its second game in the same vein as the first, jumping out to a 5-1 lead over Pacific in the first quarter. Zoe King got the scoring going and after a goal from Pacific, Siena Berry put the Bears back on top.
Dagmara Czajka scored, followed by King's second goal of the game to make it 4-1. Katie Klein added a goal to put Brown up 5-1.
Klein scored Brown's only goal of the second quarter as Pacific pulled back into the game with a 4-1 advantage in the second.
Lily Weiser added to Brown's lead with a goal in the third to make it 7-5 Brown but Pacific scored a goal a few minutes later to make it a one-goal game again. No one scored until Weiser hit the back of the net again with just over a minute left for the final margin.
Marley Presiado got the win in goal for the Bears with 11 saves and two steals.
UP NEXT
Brown will begin conference play with three games next weekend. The Bears will play Saint Francis, Bucknell and Princeton at Bucknell next Saturday and Sunday.
