Bears Wrap Up Competition in Dual Meet at New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. – The Brown gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season on Saturday evening, scoring 191.625 points in a dual meet at New Hampshire. The Wildcats won the meet after posting a score of 195.875.
Freshman Julia Bedell led the Bears with her third place floor performance. Senior Mei Li Costa finished second overall on bars to lead Brown, while the two tied for the team lead and third overall on vault. Freshman Taylor Schulze led Brown on the beam. As a team, Brown had strong showings from start to finish while posting a season-high score of 48.650 on vault with two athletes setting new career-highs, and one posting a season-high.
Starting off the meet on bars, Costa, who set the Brown program record at last weekend's meet, led Brown with a second place overall finish with 9.850 points. She was followed by junior Ella Poley at 9.70 and Schulze, who set a new collegiate personal record, at 9.675.
Next up on vault, Brown posted its highest score of the meet at 48.650. Bedell and Costa tied for fourth overall with scores of 9.825. Gardner posted a season-high of 9.725, and sophomore Angela Xing finished with a new personal-best score of 9.650. Sophomore Lauren Kramer led off the event for the Bears and also posted a new personal-best score at 9.625.
Bedell led the Bears on the floor with her third place performance, scoring 9.800 points while anchoring the event for the Bears. Lazaro contributed 9.700 points, while senior Abby Walsh finished with a score of 9.525.
Closing out the meet on beam, Schulze led the way once again for Brown with a mark of 9.775. Costa followed with 9.625, along with a 9.575 from junior Lauren Lazaro.
Next up, the Bears will return home next Sunday February 20 at 1 p.m. to host the Rumble and Tumble, an event co-hosted by Brown's wrestling team. The gymnasts will host a tri-meet with RIC and LIU, while the wrestlers will host Sacred Heart for a dual meet.
