CANTON, N.Y. – The Brown Bears (4-9-2, 1-7-2 ECAC) dropped the first half finale at Appleton Arena against St. Lawrence (8-8-0, 5-3-0 ECAC) as the Saints took a 4-0 home win Saturday night.
"It was a disappointing result but I wasn't disappointed with the work-ethic; I thought we out-worked them and out-competed them," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "They got really good goaltending and our special teams unfortunately let us down tonight. The power play had been coming along nicely but tonight it struggled, 0-for-7 that's the game right there.
"We'll regroup as the team heads into exams and the positive is most of our games in the second half are at home, we'll see this team again at our place along with many of the others and I feel confident we're going to be where we want to be at the end of the year."
The Saints took an early lead 8:35 into the first on the first power play opportunity of the game. Jan Lasak tipped a Philippe Chapleau point shot through Mathieu Caron (22 saves). Ty Naaykens also assisted on the goal.
The Bears had a pair of power play chances late in the opening frame but were unable to beat St. Lawrence goaltender Emil Zetterquist (31 saves).
Max Dorrington doubled St. Lawrence's lead 4:02 into the second period as Lasak found the junior in the slot as he crashed the net. Naaykens picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.
Brown was unable to cut into the Saints' lead despite two power play chances in the second and a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal in the frame.
Dorrington tallied his second of the game and fifth of the season 11:28 into the third period to make it 3-0 Saints.
With 2:36 remaining in regulation, Josh Boyer found the empty-net to make it 4-0 Saints.
