Men's water polo set to host NWPC Tournament, faces Iona on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo will begin play at the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NEWPC) Tournament on Friday (Nov. 18) taking on the No. 5 seed Iona. The No. 4 seed Bears will host the tournament which will run from Friday through Sunday.
Brown's matchup with the Gaels will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Bears game, as well as the rest of the games in the tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.
Brown enters the game with a 15-14 record on the year and a 4-6 mark in conference play. The Bears finished the season splitting four games, dropping contests to Princeton and St. Francis Brooklyn and beating Connecticut College and Iona.
The Bears were led this season by Ilias Stothart with 62 goals. Gabe Chang was second on the team with 45. Stothart also led the team with 42 penalties drawn.
Cole Atwell had 34 goals on the season to go along with a team-best 44 assists. Atwell also had 27 steals. Leo Berkman had 39 goals in the regular season with 21 assists and 23 steals.
Brown now turns its attention to an Iona team that was 10-17 on the season and 4-8 in conference play. Luksa Vlasic led Iona with 57 goals and Mohamed Refaat was the leading point getter with 75 (47 goals, 28 assists).
The Bears won both matchups against Iona this year, beating the Gaels 12-9 on the road and 12-8 at home.
With a win, Brown will move on to play No. 1 Princeton on Saturday at 12 p.m.
