Men's Crew Opens Fall Season with Strong Performance at Head of the Housatonic
10/8/2022 5:46:00 PM | Men's Crew
SHELTON, Conn. – Brown men's crew opened the fall slate with five crews competing at the Head of the Housatonic at Indian Well State Park. Brown had five eights competing in the Collegiate Men division in a field of 19 crews from Brown (5), Northeastern (4), Trinity (1), and Yale (9).
"The team brought really good energy today," said Head Coach Paul Cooke '89. "They were ready to compete and the effort was strong. It was the first chance for the crews to test themselves against outside competition. It was a very high standard and the athletes are striving to meet and exceed it. We have a lot of experience, depth and enthusiasm and a lot of room to grow. I'm excited about how this crew is coming together."
The Brown 'A' crew clocked a time of 13:24.1 to finish second, trailing only the top boat from Yale (13:17.3). The Bears finished 3.8 seconds ahead of the Yale 'B' boat.
The second Bruno crew finished sixth with a time of 13:48.8, trailing the top Northeastern crew and Yale 'C' in fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Brown 'C' boat posted a time of 14:14.7 to finish tenth, finishing less than a second ahead of a Bulldog shell. Four Bears made their collegiate debuts in the boat, including Mees du Croo de Jongh, who stroked the crew.
Brown's D boat finished 12th with a time of 14:22.6, trailing the Brown 'C' boat and the Yale 'H' crew. Two Bears made their respective debuts in the boat, including Joseph Olagundoye, who stroked the crew.
Rounding out the Brown finishers came the fifth boat in 15th with a time of 14:44.0. Three Bears made their debuts in the shell.
Brown returns to action at the 2022 Head of the Charles Regatta with two days of competition in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Brown will race on Saturday (Oct. 22) and Sunday (Oct. 23).
