PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team will open its season at the ITA Regionals hosted by Army this weekend, running from Friday, Oct. 7 through Sunday, Oct. 9. Brown boasts a deep, young squad, with eight underclassmen on their thirteen-man roster.
"It's a great opportunity for us to establish our competitive level," said head coach Alex Kasarov. "We are excited to get there and get going."
Fellow Ivy League schools Dartmouth, Columbia, and Harvard will be in attendance, as will Quinnipiac, Boston College, Holy Cross, and a number of other teams on Brown's spring schedule.
Six players from Brown's roster will compete in the singles draw, with senior Niraj Komatineni leading the way. Komatineni won his first match in last year's main draw before losing in the second round. This year there will be no qualifying matches, with all players entered straight into the main draw.
Komatineni will be joined by senior Matthew Mu, sophomores Sam Feldman and Brian Chong, and freshmen Noah Hernandez and Alex Koong. The six will also enter the doubles draw, with the pairings of Komatineni/Hernandez, Mu/Feldman, and Koong/Chong.
The quarterfinalists of the singles tournament and the semifinalists of the doubles tournament will advance to Super Regionals hosted by Harvard on October 21st-24th.
