Field Hockey Drops Ivy League Matchup at Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown Bears (8-4, 1-3 Ivy League) suffered their first regulation loss of the season, falling 3-2 against the Penn Quakers (4-8, 2-2 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
Jodi Porto gave the Bears the early lead with her first career goal 7:13 into the first quarter. Porto collected a rebound off of Brown's first penalty corner of the afternoon and beat Penn goalkeeper Frederique Wollaert (5 saves).
Imogen Govan doubled Brown's lead 3:03 later with her fourth goal of the season with Lucy Adams picking up her fifth assist of the season.
The Quakers cut into Brown's lead early in the second quarter as Allison Kuzyk beat goalkeeper Jodie Brine (1 save) with an assist from Julia Russo.
The Bears entered the halftime break with a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard and a 10-1 edge in shots. The Bears had all three penalty corners in the first 30 minutes of play.
Brown and Penn went scoreless in the third quarter with Penn attempting the lone shot of the frame, a Julia Russo try that was blocked. The Quakers had their first penalty corner chance of the game but were unable to generate a shot.
Penn tied the game with 10:33 remaining in the fourth quarter as Sophie Freedman found the back of the net on a penalty stroke.
After a Penn goal was waved off with 5:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, Kuzyk struck for her second of the game with 2:30 remaining to break the 2-2 deadlock and give the Quakers a 3-2 lead.
The Bears had a penalty corner chance in the final minute of the game but shots from Lexi Pellegrino and Mikayla Walsh were blocked.
