Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Match at Temple Sunday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Temple Owls (11-4, 3-2 Big East) scored the game's first two goals and took a 3-1 home win over the Brown Bears (8-5, 1-3 Ivy League) Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field.
The Owls jumped to a 2-0 lead late in the second quarter as Myrthe Schuilenburg finding the back of the net 6:49 into the game and Megan Phillips scoring her first of the season with 2:15 remaining in the second quarter.
The Bears clawed back as Catie Summers scored her third of the season with 1:09 remaining in the first half. Jodi Porto kickstarted a quick transition with a pass to Lexi Pellegrino down the right wing. Summers caught a pass from Pellegrino at the top of the circle and ripped a quick shot past goalkeeper Molly Frey (2 saves).
The Bears nearly tied the game with a penalty corner in the final minute of the third quarter, but Pellegrino's drive at the net was turned aside by Frey.
Temple sealed the game with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter as Nienke Oerlemans finished on the Owls' sixth penalty corner chance. The officials reviewed the play to confirm the goal.
