INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maloney scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season early in the second period. She later assisted on Forrest's game winner early in the third period.
- Forrest's goal broke a tie less than two minutes into the third period and was her third goal of the season. She also added her fifth assist of the year on Maloney's goal.
- Sophomore Anna Gallagher also picked up an assist on the game-winner.
- Doyle made 22 saves in the win, including a key save early in the first period and a big blocker save in the latter stages of the third period to help secure the win.
- Union outshot Brown 23-22. The 23 shots allowed by Brown is their third-lowest mark of the season.
- The win marks Brown's first win over Union since January 7, 2017.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Union killed off a penalty to begin the second period, then struck first at the 2:27 mark of the middle period when Maia Martinez stuffed in her own rebound in front.
- The Bears weren't behind for long, tying it just over two minutes later at 5:35 when Maloney sent the puck into the corner, Forrest collected it and sent a pass from the side of the net out in front to Maloney who slid the puck into the open net.
- Bruno jumped in right out of the gate to start the third period, as Maloney and Forrest teamed up once again, reversing their roles from the Bears first goal. Gallagher fed Maloney, who sent a slap shot wide of the net on a break in. Forrest corralled the rebound off the end boards below the goal line, and quickly roofed one over the goaltender's shoulder top self to give Brown its first lead of the night.
- Doyle set the tone with a sig save on a 3-on-2 in the opening seconds of the game, and made another key blocker save midway through the third period to keep it a one-goal game.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "It's important for this team to get a win. We did not play our best game of hockey. I thought the effort was there, but the second period was where things turned around for us. We didn't have our legs but the effort was there and it gives us confidence to win a game where we didn't play our very best."
- "Union forced us to change our game plan a bit today because they did a wonderful job on the rush and created a number of chances. Doyle had to make some huge saves. This is the player Doyle is and we have a lot of confidence when she is in net."
- "We talked about not making finesse plays. Let's attack rebounds and be at the net and be hungry for pucks, and our goals came off of rebounds at the net, sniffing out the puck and getting on them right away. Megan's was a nice play, roofing it after picking it up below the goal line."
