Men's Hockey Returns to ECAC Conference Play at Union and Rensselaer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's hockey returns to action with a pair of ECAC conference games in the Empire State this weekend. The Bears (3-9-0, 3-6-0 ECAC) will take on the Union Dutchmen (6-11-3, 4-6-1 ECAC) on Friday (Jan. 21) at Messa Rink in Schenectady before taking on the Rensselaer Engineers (10-12-3, 5-5-0 ECAC) on Saturday (Jan. 22) at Houston Field House in Troy.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday's game will stream on ESPN+ and through Stretch Internet for international viewers. Saturday's game will stream on RPI.tv.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES
- At Union, fans over the age of 12 are permitted to attend provided they show a valid ID and proof of vaccination. Fans between 5-11 years old must show proof of one dose of a vaccine. Masks are required at all times.
- At Rensselaer, only on-campus students, faculty, and staff are permitted to attend events.
- After four postponed games, Brown returns to conference play with the first meetings of the season against both Union and Rensselaer.
- Brown most recently fell to a pair of Hockey East teams following the holiday break, dropping home games to Boston University (Dec. 31) and Merrimack (Jan. 2).
- The Bears are tied for eighth in the ECAC conference standings with 10 league points and are five points behind the Engineers (5th) and one point behind the Dutchmen (7th).
- Senior forward Justin Jallen, who leads the team in goals and points, enters the weekend with a six-game point streak. Jallen has five goals and three assists over the six games and also enters the weekend with a four-game goal streak.
- Brown's penalty kill sits second in the conference and fifth in the NCAA with an 89.7% success rate. Brown has not allowed a power play goal in over six full games dating back to its non-conference game against Providence (Nov. 27).
- Union enters the weekend with a 6-11-3 overall record and 4-6-1 ECAC conference mark.
- Union owns a 3-2-2 home record and a 3-9-1 road record in the 2021-22 season. The Dutchmen sit alone in seventh in the conference standings with 11 ECAC league points.
- Offensively, Union is paced by Liam Robertson's seven goals through 18 games. He is tied with Brandon Estes for the team-lead in points (10).
- Estes, Chaz Smedsrud, and Tyler Watkins lead the team with seven assists apiece.
- Union is seventh in the conference and 41st in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing 3.20 goals per game.
- Between the pipes, Connor Murphy has started all 20 games and holds a 2.80 goals against average and .918 save percentage. Murphy's save percentage ranks fifth in the ECAC and 23rd in the NCAA.
- Friday night marks the 62nd meeting between Brown and Union in a series dating back to 1989.
- Brown holds a 26-22-13 record in the series and a 13-11-5 road record against the Dutchmen.
- The Engineers enter the weekend with a 10-12-3 overall record and 5-5-0 ECAC conference mark. The Engineers host Yale on Friday (Jan. 21) before welcoming the Bears to Houston Field House, the third-oldest college hockey rink in the country.
- Rensselaer is fifth in the ECAC standings with 15 league points.
- Ture Linden is tied for the team lead in goals alongside Zach Dubinsky with seven. Linden leads the team in assists (13), points (20), and shots on goal (52). As a team, RPI ranks 42nd in the NCAA with 2.50 goals scored per game.
- Defensively, RPI allows 2.79 goals per game to rank fifth in the ECAC and 28th in the NCAA.
- Linden Marshall has started 21 of 25 games for the Engineers this season. He holds a 2.53 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.
- Freshman Jack Watson holds a 1.63 goals against average and a .951 save percentage in three starts and five games played.
- Saturday night marks the 105th meeting between Brown and Rensselaer in a series dating back to 1951.
- RPI owns a 64-32-8 series record and a 39-15-4 home record against Brown.
