Kina's first collegiate goal can't lift men's soccer over Bryant

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team fell to Bryant 4-2 Wednesday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears fall to 1-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-3.
Brown got out to a fast start by scoring the first two goals of the game, but Bryant responded by scoring three of their own in the first half and one more in the second.
"In the first half we were not able to play as well as we expect of ourselves," head coach Patrick Laughlin said. "In the second half, we came out and played a lot better, but it was a little bit too late.
"We've got to be able to turn this around and move forward. For us, that's the most important thing: realizing there are things to improve on and that we have to do better."
Taha Kina opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of play. The ball was batted around the six-yard box and Malcolm Johnson was able to get it over to Kina who got his shot off quick enough to just beat the goalie. It was the first of his collegiate career.
The Bears doubled their lead less than three minutes later when Will Crain sent a high cross into the box off a free kick. Owen Schwartz was able to flick it home with his head for the 2-0 lead.
From there, it was all Bulldogs. Goals in the 27th, 29th and 43rd minute put Bryant up to end the first half and a fourth in the 63rd capped the scoring.
On the night, shots were even at 13. Brown earned seven corners to Bryant's six.
The Bears will have a chance to get back on the winning track when they host Niagara this Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
