Men's soccer heads to URI Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will hit the road to take on Rhode Island this Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Bears are coming off a 1-1 week with their most recent game being a 5-1 blowout of Niagara. On the year, the Rams are 3-1-1 after tying Providence and beating Merrimack last week.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Scouting the Bears (2-1-0):

Brown's nine goals on the year have come from eight different players. Derek Waleffe is the only Bear to have scored twice and leads the team with five points.
Paul Elliott is second on the team with four points after his four-point game against Niagara where he scored once and picked up two assists.
Max Waldau has played the last two games in goal for the Bears, making eight saves in the process including a few impressive ones against the Purple Eagles.

Scouting the Rams (3-1-1):

While they have played two more games than the Bears, the Rams have scored three less goals for a total of six. Isak Oystese leads the team with three, while Patrick Agyemang has two and Rafa Villanueva has one.
Cain Purcell leads URI with two assists.
The Ram defense has been stout so far this year. Stefan Schmidt has started all five games in goal and posted a .77 goals against average and a .846 save percentage. The Rams are only allowed their opponents to take 9.4 shots per game.

Series History:

Brown owns the all-time series over URI at 39-14-3.
The Bears fell to the Rams 1-0 in 2019, marking the first time since 2004 that URI emerged victorious against Brown. Before the game in 2019, the Bears with 7-0-2 in the previous nine meetings.
