KINGSTON, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team fell to Rhode Island 3-1 Wednesday evening.
The Rams scored first, but the Bears were able to tie things up late in the first half. Two second-half goals by URI sealed the deal for the home team.
"URI is a tough opponent," head coach Patrick Laughlin said. "I was really proud of the way the guys played. We created a lot of chances and had a lot of opportunities that went off the post or crossbar or were cleared off the line by URI, credit to them.
"At the end of the game, we opened up to go for it and try to get the tie, but unfortunately gave up the third goal. It was a really tight game."
URI opened the scoring in just the 6th minute off the foot of Patrick Agyemang, but Brown was able to answer back just eight minutes later. Will Crain got on the end of a corner and sent a bouncing ball on goal through traffic that found the back of the net.
In the second half, Agyemang scored twice more, in the 61st and 85th minutes, to ice the game for the Rams.
Between URI's second and third goals, the Bears made a run at it by putting four shots on goal, but just weren't able to finish any off.
On the night, the Rams took 19 shots to Brown's 15. They also earned 10 corners to the Bear's three. Max Waldau made six saves in goal.
Brown returns home this Saturday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. to take on St. Francis Brooklyn.
