Hanna Barakat '22 - Team Palestine

TOKYO, JAPAN - There is one current Brown student-athlete competing in this year's Summer Olympics in Tokyo and her name is Hanna Barakat '22 (Sr. - Los Angeles, CA).
Hanna joined the Brown Women's Track & Field Program in 2017 where she started her college career with a first-place finish in the 60 meters at the URI Sorlien Memorial Invitational with a time of 7.78 during the indoor season. From 2019-2020, she has also been part of some very successful relay teams in both the 4x100m and the 4x400m. Â
During the 2019-20 indoor season, she was part of a team that broke the school record in the 4x400m relay (3:40.80) at the BU Valentine Invite.
"I'm so happy for Hanna," Brown's head track & field coach Tim Springfield said. "She's worked so hard and has shown tremendous improvement over the years here. We are all looking forward to rooting hard for her in the Olympics from back here in Providence."
Hanna's father Mohammed Barakat competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles for Team USA in the sport of field hockey. She will represent Palestine in Tokyo and participate in the 100m.
