
Women’s Soccer’s Thompson Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer senior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson has earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District accolades, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
Thompson (Austin, Texas) gained First Team All-Ivy, First Team All-East Region, First Team NEWISA All-New England, Third Team Scholar All-America, First Team Scholar All-East Region, and the team's Ridgely Most Valuable Player Award in 2019, her first season with the program. She ranked sixth in the NCAA in save percentage (.892) and ninth in goals-against average (0.44) while leading the Ivy League in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts (nine).
A Public Health concentrator, Thompson helped the Bears set single-season program records for wins (14), home wins (11), and shutouts (13) in 2019. She led a Brown defense that ranked second in the NCAA in goals allowed (eight), third in save percentage (.890), and fourth in GAA (0.40).
Thompson will return to the team for the 2021 season and finish her studies. She will also serve as a team captain.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
