Kania Named 2022 Senior CLASS Award Candidate
12/8/2021 11:45:00 AM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fifth-year goaltender and assistant captain Luke Kania has been named one of 20 candidates for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award, announced earlier today.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Kania is pursuing a Master's Degree in Data Science and serves as a graduate teaching assistant for Data Engineering. The two-time assistant captain is the first Brown goaltender in 30 years to wear a letter for the Bears.
In the community, Kania serves as the men's hockey Team IMPACT representative and serves as a mentor at the Vartan Gregorian School in Providence.
Kania is one of four ECAC players named a candidate, joining Dartmouth's Harrison Markell, Quinnipiac's Wyatt Bongiovanni, and Union's Josh Kosack.
Ohio State has three nominees, the most of any school. Notre Dame is the only other program with more than one candidate.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to ten finalists later in the season. Those ten names will then be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in April.
