Men's water polo begins tournament play against Iona on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo is set to begin play in the Northeast Water Polo Conference tournament on Friday (Nov. 19) against Iona. The Bears will take on the Gaels in the first game of the tournament at 1:00 p.m.
Brown comes into the matchup as the No. 4 seed and will take on the No. 5 seed Iona. The Bears finished the season with a 5-4 record in conference play and Iona finished with a 1-9 mark.
Cole Atwell led the Bears in the regular season with 49 goals and Filip Aleksic was second on the team with 46. Both Connor Enright (45) and Leo Berkman (41) also finished with more than 40 goals for the Bears. Aleksic was the leading scorer for Brown with 92 points, adding a team-high 46 assists on the year.
In goal, Ugo Piovan had the most saves for the Bears, collecting 178.
Brown won both meetings against Iona during the regular season. In the first meeting, the Bears picked up a 15-12 win. Enright and Berkman each scored three goals for the Bears. Brown and Iona tied in three of the quarter but the Bears won the second quarter 5-2.
In the second meeting of the season, Brown jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and led 8-4 at halftime. A 5-1 third quarter sealed the win for the Bears, who took the game 15-7. Ben Kirshon and Andrew Penner each tallied three goals for the Bears in the win.
