Women’s Hockey to Face No. 4 Colgate, Cornell this Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will hit the road for the first time this season to take on ECAC foes Colgate on Friday evening, and Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The games will mark the third and fourth consecutive contests in which the Bears will face an opponent that is either ranked, or receiving votes in the national polls.

- Brown earned a 2-2 tie and fell 5-2 on opening weekend at Meehan Auditorium to a strong Penn State squad, before dropping two close games to No. 7/8 Quinnipiac 5-3, and 3-2 to Princeton.
- Freshman Anna Hurd was named the ECAC Rookie of the Month after a strong start to her collegiate career, scoring five points through the first four games off three goals and two assists.
- Senior Shay Maloney, sophomore Cassidy Piersiak and freshman Cameron Sikich all have two assists.
- The Bears are 5-for-14 on the power play to start the year, with Hurd scoring twice so far with the man-advantage.
SCOUTING COLGATE
- Ranked at No. 4 in the nation in both national polls this week, the Raiders are 10-2 (2-0 ECAC) to start the season and are coming off a top-10 win over Harvard, 5-4 in OT on Saturday.
- Their only two losses both came at home to No. 4 Minnesota.
- Colgate is scoring 5.3 goals per game so far this season and is holding opponents to an average of just 19.3 shots on goal per game.
- Three Raiders have at least seven goals this season, with Kalty Kaltounkova (9 g, 11 a) and Danielle Serdachny (7g, 13a) leading the way with 20 points apiece. Dara Greig adds nine goals and 10 assists.
- Colgate is just 9-for-53 on the power play this season, but has been very strong shorthanded, successfully killing off 39 of their 41 penalties thus far.
SCOUTING CORNELL
- After being ranked No. 8 in the preseason and as high as No. 9 after the start of this season, Cornell is currently receiving votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
- After splitting a pair of non-conference games with Mercyhurst to open the year, the Big Red have dropped their first two ECAC contests, 4-1 to Harvard and 4-3 to Dartmouth. They will host Yale on Friday evening before welcoming Brown on Saturday.
- Cornell is averaging 2.5 goals per game, led by Gillis Franchette and Rory Guilday who each have two goals and one assist.
- Izzy Daniel has a team-high five points, all coming on assists.
- Grad student Lindsay Browning has a 2.29 goal-against average between the pipes, having started all four games.
