Men's Hockey Hits the Road to take on #9/10 Cornell Friday; Colgate Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears men's hockey team (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC) hits the road for the first time in the 2021-22 season to take on #9/10 Cornell (5-1-0, 3-1-0 ECAC) on Friday (Nov. 19) and Colgate (6-7-0, 1-3-0 ECAC) on Saturday (Nov. 20).
Friday's game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Lynah Rink on Cornell's campus while Saturday's game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Class of 1965 Arena on Colgate's campus. Both games will stream on ESPN+ and through Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC)
- Brown enters the weekend with a 1-2-0 overall record and the same mark in ECAC conference play. The Bears opened the season with a 2-0 win over Yale before falling to Princeton, 6-3, and sixth-ranked Quinnipiac, 1-0.
- Mathieu Caron recorded 34 saves in the loss to Quinnipiac, his first collegiate start. To this point of the season, Caron holds a 1.46 goals against average and a .964 save percentage.
- Junior forward Nathan Plessis leads the team with two goals in three games. He found the back of the net against Yale (Oct. 30) and Princeton (Nov. 5).
- Junior defenseman Samuli Niinisaari and junior forward Cole Quisenberry are tied for the team-lead with two assists.
- Brown's scoring defense ranks fourth in the ECAC and 16th in the country, allowing 2.33 goals per game.
- On special teams, Brown ranks sixth in the conference and tied for 39th in the country with a 15.4% (2-for-13) success rate on the power play. The Bears lead the conference and are second in the country with a 95% penalty kill rate (19-for-20).
- Cornell enters the weekend with a 5-1-0 overall record and 3-1-0 ECAC mark.
- The Big Red are the ninth-ranked team per the USA Today / USA Hockey Poll and the 10th-ranked team per the USCHO.com poll.
- The Big Red opened the season with consecutive overtime wins over Alaska Fairbanks. Cornell fell to Harvard, 3-2, before taking wins over Dartmouth (5-4), Union (4-1), and Rensselaer (11-3).
- Max Andreev and Matt Stienburg lead Cornell with nine points apiece. Andreev and Ben Berard lead the team with four goals and Stienburg leads the team with six helpers.
- In total, 14 players have recorded multiple points and 18 players in total have recorded at least a point.
- Thirteen Cornell skaters return from the 2019-20 season, led by Brenden Locke, who was second on the team in scoring in 2019-20 with eight goals and 26 points in 29 games played.
- Between the pipes, Joe Howe has started four of six games and holds a .922 save percentage and 1.75 goals against average. Nate McDonald has made two starts and holds a .850 save percentage and 2.98 goals against average.
- McDonald entered the new season as the lone returning goaltender, but he had not appeared in a game for the Big Red in his career.
- The Big Red were the top-ranked team in the nation as the remainder of the 2019-20 season was canceled. Cornell held a 23-2-4 overall record and an 18-2-2 ECAC record.
- Colgate enters the weekend with a 6-7-0 overall record and 1-3-0 ECAC conference mark.
- The Raiders opened the season with four straight wins, beating RIT (5-2), UVM (5-3), UVM (2-1), and Merrimack (2-1 ot), before falling to the Warriors in the second game of the series. From there, Colgate split a weekend series with Arizona State before dropping the next four games, falling twice to 13th-ranked Western Michigan, once to Dartmouth, and once to ninth-ranked Harvard.
- The Raiders beat Rensselaer before falling to Union in its most recent action. Colgate takes on Yale on Friday (Nov. 19) before welcoming Brown to the Class of 1965 Arena.
- Colton Young leads the Raiders with eight goals and 15 points. He is tied for the team-lead in assists with his brother, Alex, and Nick Anderson.
- Seventeen Raiders have recorded multiple points this season and another seven skaters have one point.
- Carter Gylander has made nine starts between the pipes and appeared in 10 games to lead Raider netminders. However, all three goalies on the roster have started at least one game in 2021-22 and over 20 games each in his respective collegiate career.
- Gylander leads the team in minutes (538:36) and holds a 2.90 goals against and a .909 save percentage.
- Andrew Farrier is second on the team in minutes (178:09) and holds a 3.37 goals against and a .905 save percentage.
- Mitch Benson is third on the team in minutes (60:17) and holds a 1.99 goals against and a .950 save percentage.
