PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fifth-year goaltender Luke Kania was named ECAC Mac Goaltending Goalie of the Week following his 32-save shutout in Brown's 2-0 win over Yale Saturday night (Oct. 30) at Meehan Auditorium.
Kania recorded the third shutout of his career in the season-opening win over the Bulldogs. The Chicago, Illinois native recorded 15 saves in the second period and stopped all 10 shots faced on Yale's eight power play opportunities.
Brown's offense was powered by goals from Nathan Plessis and Jonny Russell in the victory along with two assists from Cole Quisenberry and one from Samuli Niinisaari.
With the shutout, Kania moved into a tie for fifth in program history in shutouts with three. He trails Yann Danis '04 (13), Gavin Nieto '20 (5), Anthony Borelli '13 (4), and Harry Batchelder '58 (4).
Kania will look to become the first Brown netminder to record consecutive shutouts since Mike Clemente '12 blanked Harvard on consecutive nights in the ECAC Hockey First Round series in 2009.
Brown hosts Princeton (0-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Friday (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m. before welcoming fifth-ranked Quinnipiac (5-1-2, 0-0-0 ECAC) to Meehan Auditorium on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 4 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+. Tickets can be purchased here.
