Men's Crew Finishes First Fall Competition at Head of the Housatonic on Saturday

DERBY, Conn. – The Brown men's crew team opened the 2021 fall schedule at the Head of the Housatonic on Saturday. Five boats competed in the 8+ Collegiate Men's IRA Division of 17 total boats.

"There was a very high standard of competition at the race today and it definitely pushed the crews," said head coach Paul Cooke '89. "The team raced hard, the effort was good, and it was an exciting field to be part of. Clearly, we have a lot of work to do, both in. terms of fitness and efficiency, but we also had successes we can build on. We need to bring great energy and focus to practice."

The Brown A Boat posted a time of 13:25.1 to finish fifth in the event and the B Boat finished sixth with a time of 13:40.5.

Yale's A Boat won the event with a time of 12:53.0. The Bulldogs were followed by Washington (13:16.2), Northeastern (13:23.1), and the Yale F Boat (13:24.0).

The Brown D Boat captured eighth in the event after finishing with a time of 13:51.0. They were followed by Brown's C Boat, finishing 12th with a time of 14:05.7, and the Brown E Boat, finishing 15th with a time of 14:33.1.

The Bears compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday (Oct. 23) and Sunday (Oct. 24).
