PRINCETON, N.J. – Seniors Jared Yabu and Katherine Dokholyan led the Brown men's and women's cross country teams on Saturday, as both teams finished eighth at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
Brown's men's team competed short-handed, with four runners either unable to compete or having to withdraw due to injury. Senior Jared Yabu was the first Bear to cross the finish line in 27th with a time of 24:59.6. He was followed by junior Gabriel Cannavo (65th/26:05.6), senior Aaron Siff-Scherr (66th/26:10.7), senior Griffin McCauley (68th/26:16.1) and freshman Samuel Colton (78th/26:45.3). Sophomore Jesse Edelstein (26:52.9) and freshman Justin Hickey (27:00.2) followed to complete Brown's seven finishers. The men's team competed short-handed, with four runners either not able to compete or having to withdraw due to injury.
On the women's side, Katherine Dokholyan led the way for Brown for the third time this season with her 23rd place finish in 21:26.2. Fellow senior Emily Kompelien (21:38.5) came in 28th overall, followed by sophomore Isa Stronski (53rd/22:30.5), sophomore Kate Orchard (55th/22:32.2), and senior Mary Bibbey (68th/22:48.4). The top seven was completed by senior Isabela Bartczak (23:00.2) and freshman Isolde McManus (23:21.2).
"The women did a great job of executing the race plan, but came up a little short over the final one kilometer," said distance coach Hannah Chappell-Dick. "We're a young team on both sides and most of the athletes we're running in their first heps."
Brown will compete next at the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 12 at Franklin Park in Boston.
