
Ahuja Breaks Program Record, Brown Competes at Northeast Regionals

CONTOOCOOK, N.H. - It was a record breaking day for Brown women's cross country at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. In her final collegiate cross country race, senior Nimrit Ahuja ran the fastest 6K in program history in 20:25.4, beating the previous record by seven seconds that had been held by Heidi Caldwell since 2012. Ahuja's finish was the highest individual regional finish for Brown's women since 2018. Ahuja also earned a spot on the NCAA All-Northeast Regional team for placing in the top 25.
Along with Ahuja's record breaking performance, senior Julia Schriefer ran the 31st fastest 6K time in program history in 21:10.8, and senior Emily Mrakovcic ran the 49th fastest 6K time in program history in 21:21.6.
The women's team finished 12th overall out of 37 teams, scoring 354 points. Ahuja's record breaking time placed her 17th overall out of 251 runners. Boston College captured first as a team, finishing with 60 points. Providence College followed, finishing second with an overall score of 71 points. Army (91), Syracuse (126), and Yale (153) finished out the top five.
Ahuja finished first for Brown and 17th overall with her historic time of 20:25.4. Schriefer finished second for Brown and 68th overall with her time of 21:10.8. Mrakovcic (82nd/21:21.6), junior Olivia Fraga (84th/21:22.5), and freshman Charlotte Murphy (104th/21:38.2), secured points for the Bears.
For the men, Brown finished 22nd overall out of 38 teams, scoring 603 points. Syracuse claimed first with an impressive 32 points, 63 points ahead of second place Iona (95). Harvard (105), Providence (169), and Yale (170) finished out the top five.
Sophomore Colin Fisher finished 81st overall out of 263 runners with a time of 30:56.2 to lead the Bears. Junior Sebastian Margetts finished second for Brown and 95th overall with a time of 31:07.8. Senior John Farrell (134th/31:39.0), junior Matthew Doherty (149th/31:46.5), and freshman Benjy Street (149th/31:46.5), secured points for the Bears.
With the cross country season now complete, the Bears will turn their attention to the indoor track and field season, which is scheduled to start on December 4-5 with the URI Multi Meet.
