HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Quinnipiac spotted a four-goal lead in the first period, including two goals in the final minute of the frame.
- QU struck first at the 7:17 mark of the period when Lexie Adzija put a quick wrister just under the bar into the top right corner to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
- QU struck again just over five minutes later at 12:40, when Jess Schryver one-timed a long rebound into the net from the right wing circle.
- After going up 3-0 on a power play goal with 51 seconds left in the period, QU struck again right before the horn on a one-timer from the edge of the left wing circle off a centering pass with 8.7 seconds remaining to carry a four goal advantage into the intermission.
- Coming off the bench to start the period, Doyle made a big stop on a breakaway attempt just over five minutes into the second period to keep QU off the scoreboard.
- Brown battled back and scored twice to open the second period, beginning with a special teams tally. Hurd found the back of the net with a wrist shot from the top of the left wing circle that snuck just inside the left post for a power play goal. Maloney picked up the assist.
- Brown struck again just over four minutes later at 15:37 when Stockfish fed a pass across to the left for Piersiak, who let go of a shot that deflected off Shelden in front of the net and past the goaltender for her first career goal that pulled the Bears within 4-2.
- Once again, Quinnipiac had an answer late in the period, scoring with 3:27 remaining to get the lead back to three.
- Stockfish rallied the Bears within two once again early in the third, skating around a defender at the blue line, and after getting her initial shot saved, chipped the rebound up over the goaltender in to the net for her first goal of the year.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
"We have a no quit attitude and a tremendous amount of grit. I think they need to convince themselves that we can win, and I think there is that belief in the locker room. We gave ourselves a chance to come back and win tonight, but when you're down by four, it's hard to win at that point."
"I think we made some backdoor mistakes in the first period that left our goaltenders in a tough position. Kaley (Doyle) came in and locked it down. The team played hard in front of her and she made a couple big saves and gave us a chance at the end there."
The Bears will return to the ice on Saturday afternoon to conclude a four-game homestand to open the season with a matchup against Princeton. The puck drops at 3 pm. on ESPN+.
