Water polo downed by No. 18 Cal Baptist to start the weekend

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brown men's water polo was tripped up by No. 18 Cal Baptist in the first game of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament for the Bears on Friday (Oct. 22). The Bears fell to the Lancers 18-14.
Filip Aleksic led the Bears in points notching three goals and three assists on the day. Cole Atwell also tallied three goals. Eight other Bears scored a goal in the game and Evan Moore and Gabe Chang each also finished with three assists.
In goal, Ugo Piovan finished the game with ten saves.
The game started back and forth with Andrew Penner scoring the first goal for Brown. After goals from Matt Simko, Leo Berkman and Atwell, Brown had a 4-2 lead. Cal Baptist tied the game at four before goals from Atwell and Anderson Todd put Brown up 6-4 after the first quarter.
Brown maintained a two-goal lead halfway through the second following goals from Aleksic and Atwell but the Lancers took over the last three minutes of the quarter, scoring three goals before halftime to take a 9-8 lead.
Aleksic tallied two more goals in the third quarter and Nick Berry also scored at one point to tie the game at 10 but Cal Baptist used a 3-1 run to end the quarter, taking a 13-11 lead into the last period of play.
Four quick goals in the fourth broke open the game for Cal Baptist before Ben Resko scored to end the streak of five-straight goals. Stephen Salle and Moore scored late goals for the Bears to end the game.
Brown will be back in the pool for two games on Saturday (Oct. 23) taking on Fresno Pacific and Air Force.
