Water polo beats Fresno Pacific and Air Force for two wins on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brown men's water polo picked up two wins on Saturday (Oct. 23) at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament. The Bears began the day with a win over Fresno Pacific before finishing in the day with a victory against Air Force.
Connor Enright, Matt Simko and Ben Kirshon all collected hat tricks against Fresno Pacific. Kirshon, Leo Berkman and Filip Aleksic each scored two goals against Air Force. Against Fresno Pacific, Ugo Piovan had eight saves in goal.
GAME 1 vs Fresno Pacific
Brown rebounded from a loss in the first game of the tournament with a 19-10 win over Fresno Pacific. The first quarter was scoreless until 1:55 left when Enright scored a goal. The Bears added goals by Ben Resko and Enright to take a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.
Following a goal by FPU to start the second, Atwell and Matt Simko scored to make it 5-1 lead. Goals by Kirshon, Simko, Atwell and another by Kirshon kept the lead at four at halftime.
Brown scored four more goals in the third quarter, including Kirshon's third of the game to take a 13-7 lead to the final quarter. In the final quarter, Andrew Penner, Berkman and Enright scored for a 3-0 run that put the game out of reach at 16-8.
GAME 2 vs Air Force
The Bears fell behind early in the first quarter against the Falcons. Berkman scored but Air Force was up 4-1 until Kirshon tallied a goal to make the score 4-2 after one quarter. Each team scored just one goal in the second quarter with Resko scoring but Air Force taking a 5-3 lead into half time.
To start the third quarter, Brown went on a run. Aleksic scored a minute into the quarter to cut the lead to one. Nick Berry's goal with 3:40 on the clock tied the game and Penner scored one minute later to put Brown up 6-5.
Air Force tied the game at six but a goal from Berkman put the Bears back on top. The Falcons scored a goal under a minute left in the quarter and the game went to the fourth tied 7-7.
Enright quickly put Brown back ahead with his only goal of the game 30 seconds in to the fourth quarter. Gabe Chang tallied a goal half a minute later to put the Bears up two. After a goal by Air Force, Aleksic and Berry came back with goals to put Brown up 11-8. The Falcons scored one more goal but Brown held on for the 11-9 win.
