Men's soccer draws at Harvard thanks to Waleffe brace

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Derek Waleffe scored both of Brown men's soccer's goals in the team's 2-2 tie against Harvard Saturday night at Jordan Field.
"It was a really gutsy, tough performance by the team," head coach Patrick Laughlin said. "It was an amazing job in difficult weather playing a talented Harvard team. It was great to see a full performance by the entire team and it was a good example of BMS soccer."
Waleffe opened the scoring in just the third minute of action when he headed in a rebound off a Brown cross. But Harvard responded in the 21st and 24th minutes with a pair of goals to take the lead headed into the second half.
Waleffe added his second goal of the game when the Crimson keeper mishandled a Zakary Lawal cross and Waleffe was able to stuff it home.
Regulation ended in a tie so the teams went to extra time. Shots were even in the overtime periods, 4-4, but neither side was able to convert on a game-winner. The game ended tied at two.
The Bears will continue Ivy League action next Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at Cornell.
