Bears battle back from two-goal deficit for third win in four games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Trailing by two goals after two periods, the Brown men's hockey team scored four times in the third to earn a thrilling comeback win over Princeton, 4-3, in Friday's ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown (6-16-0, 6-9-0) picked up two points in conference play and captured its third win in four games. Princeton dropped to 3-15-4, 1-11-3.

Tony Stillwell (Green Bay, Wis.), Luke Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Tristan Crozier (Calgary, Alberta) all scored in the third before rookie Bradley Cocca (Toronto, Ontario) notched the game winner on the power play with 4:39 remaining. Stillwell also added an assist for the two-point night and defenseman Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) finished with two helpers.

"It's a big win. We need points as we try to move into home ice in the first round," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "We were able to find a way to win the hockey game, and ultimately it's nice to see the guys come back, and us get a win on a night where we weren't particularly sharp. The guys came through in the third and it's good to see that growth and maturity."

Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) had 20 saves in the win. Aidan Porter made 20 stops on the other end for Princeton.

Derek Topatigh scored back-to-back power-play goals in the opening 9:33 of the contest to give the visitors an early lead. Princeton had a 12-7 shot advantage in the first period. The Bears outshot the Tigers by a 7-6 margin in the middle frame.

Stillwell and Krys started the third-period comeback with two goals within a 48-second span. After Stillwell launched a shot over the shoulder of Porter for his first goal of the season at 4:50, Krys roofed a backhand shot from behind the net for his third of the season to even the score, 2-2.

Matt Kellenberger scored at 9:45 to push the Tigers back in front, but the Bears responded with the game-tying goal at 12:38, when Crozier used a backhand shot to finish a feed from Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) for his second goal of the season.

Cocca netted the game winner at 15:21 when he converted a rebound in front for his fourth power-play goal of the season.

Brown outshot the Tigers, 24-23, and went 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Bears will host No. 16 Quinnipiac Saturday night at 7 PM.
