Men’s Swimming & Diving Sets 800 Freestyle Relay School Record in Night One of the Ivy League Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team opened the Ivy League Championships on Wednesday night at Blodgett Pool with the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.

A team of senior Joon Sung (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior Coley Sullivan (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore I.I. Qiao (Naperville, Ill.) and senior Alex Smilenov (Katy, Texas) swam to a finish of 1:27.53 for fifth place in the 200 medley relay to begin the night.

Senior Cody Cline (Wellington, Fla.), junior Michael Lincoln (Palo Alto, Calif.), Sullivan and Smilenov closed the first day with a school record time of 6:25.56 in the 800 freestyle relay to finish third. The time bested the quartets 6:26.14 they recorded earlier in the season.

The Bears next compete in their first full day of the Ivy League Championships tomorrow (Feb. 27) at Blodgett Pool with prelims beginning at 11:00 a.m. and finals for the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 1 meter diving and 200 freestyle relay starting at 6:00 p.m.
