Bears will play Presbyterian, Wofford and USC-Upstate in four-game weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Brown baseball team will kick off the 2020 season with four games in Spartanburg, South Carolina this weekend, starting with a single game against Presbyterian on Friday. The Bears will also play a doubleheader against Wofford on Saturday and a single game against USC-Upstate on Sunday.

Presbyterian (0-4) dropped three games against Eastern Kentucky last weekend and most recently fell to South Carolina on Wednesday. The Blue Hose went 30-20 last season and 16-11 in Big South conference play. Jimmy Marcelli leads the team with five hits (.313), one of three players batting over .500, while Landon Shaw has driven home five runs through four games. Presbyterian is hitting .237 as a team early in the season.

Scouting Wofford
Wofford (4-0) is undefeated after sweeping Binghamton in the season-opening weekend and most recently topped UNC Asheville, 8-7, in midweek play. The Terriers have scored at least five runs in each of its four games and head into the weekend with a .343 team batting average. Lawson Hill leads the lineup with nine hits (.600) as six players are batting over .300.

Scouting USC-Upstate
USC-Upstate (3-1) captured two of three games against LIU to open the season before a win over Furman on Tuesday. USC is hitting .310 as a team after four games, led by third baseman Mason Stewart, who has eight hits for a .615 average. He is one of five players batting over .300 early in the season. Jordan Marks and Ben Ferrer earned back-to-back wins in the opening two games of the season, allowing one run in nearly 15 combined innings. The Spartans went 23-30 overall last season.

2020 Captains
Seniors Dustin Baird and Rich Ciufo will serve as team captains for the 2020 season. Ciufo will serve as a team captain for the second straight season. The infielder started all 39 games last season as the team's shortstop and heads into the spring with 112 career games played. Baird enjoyed a breakout season in 2019 as he earned All-Ivy honors for the first time in his career. The right-handed pitcher made a team-high 19 appearances on the mound and posted a 2.11 ERA in Ivy League play.

Brown brings back two of three All-Ivy selections from last season. Joe Lomuscio was a unanimous First Team selection after a standout season. The center fielder posted a .370 batting average in Ivy League play and tied for the league lead with 37 hits. Dustin Baird was named to the Second Team to earn All-Ivy honors for the first time in his career. He was one of the top relief pitchers in the Ivies and led the team with 19 overall appearances, including 12 in league play, and limited Ivy opponents to a .203 batting average.
