PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team opens its 2020 season on the road at nearby Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 12:00 p.m.

2019 RECAP
Brown went 8-7 overall in 2019 and finished tied for fourth with Cornell in the Ivy League standings with a 4-3 conference mark. A total of six Bears earned All-Ivy honors with Risa Mosenthal leading the group with First Team accolades. Mason Warble made the Second Team while Erin Schafer and Erin Tucker were picked Honorable Mention for the returning team members. Warble was also selected to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region Second Team after leading the Bears in caused turnovers (32) and ground balls (41). Her 32 caused turnovers are tied for fourth best in a season at Brown while her 41 ground balls are 15th. Warble ranked second in the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.13) and was fifth in ground balls per game (2.73).
KEY RETURNERS
The Bears return six of their top seven scorers from last season, with junior Risa Mosenthal leading the squad with 51 goals and eight assists for 59 points a year ago. Junior Maggie Fowler (36-7-43), sophomore Claire Jeschke (16-8-24), sophomore Sophia DeRosa (14-7-21), senior KC Williams (18-1-19) and sophomore Alaina Parisella (14-2-16) also return.
IN GOAL
Sophomore Erin Tucker returns between the pipes after earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in 2019 while starting all 15 games in her rookie campaign. Tucker recorded an 11.54 goals-against average and a .428 save percentage and made double digit saves in eight games. She tallied a collegiate best 13 saves at Dartmouth and also added a career high six ground balls versus the Big Green. Junior Cait Barrett also returns after appearing in five games last season.
CHASING CAREER MARKS
A 2019 First Team All-Ivy selection, junior Risa Mosenthal is chasing multiple program records. The Campton, N.H. native has recorded 106 goals and 17 assists for 123 points in just two years. Her 106 goals are already fifth-best at Brown while her 51 goals scored in 2019 are third highest for a season. She broke the school mark for goals in a game with nine against Fresno State on March 31, 2019, which also tied the Ivy League record. Having recorded a point in 29 games played, Mosenthal is chasing the record for consecutive games with a point, which is 40, set by Lauren Becker '87.
BEARS' DEFENSE AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS
Brown ranked 11th in the country in 2019 caused turnovers per game, averaging 11.33. Junior Mason Warble led the defense with 32 caused turnovers while sophomore Erin Schafer (22) and senior Emily Fyrer (20) forced 20 or more turnovers.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant opened its season in Smithfield, R.I. on Wednesday against Quinnipiac with a 14-12 win. Caitlin Bolen led the Bulldogs with four goals while both Caitlin Breglia and Alexa Weber added three. Bryant went 8-9 in 2019, including 4-3 in the NEC and reached the conference semifinals in 2019. The Bulldogs return over 60 percent of their scoring from one year ago including First Team All-NEC selection Caitlin Breglia and All-Rookie Team honoree Alexa Weber. On the defensive side, sophomore goalkeeper and All-Rookie Team selection Giana Kapoosuzian returns between the pipes after compiling 172 saves on the year ranking second in the NEC.
ALL-TIME VS. BRYANT
Brown holds a 9-2 series advantage over Bryant all-time. The last two games of the series have been decided by a single goal, with the Bulldogs capturing the matchup in 2019, 14-13, in Providence and the Bears taking the victory in 2018, 15-14, in Smithfield.
PRESEASON IVY LEAGUE POLL
Brown was selected to finish fifth with 57 points in the 2020 Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll. Princeton was predicted to finish first with 13 first-place votes and 125 points while Penn followed in second with three first-place votes and 112 points. Dartmouth (92 points) and Cornell (79 points) rounded out the top four while Harvard (48 points), Yale (36 points) and Columbia (27 points) finished sixth through eighth.
IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The 2020 Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Tournament will be held at the site of the top seed on May 1 and 3 with the top four teams advancing to postseason play.
BEARS WELCOME EIGHT NEWCOMERS
Brown added eight players to its 2020 roster. The freshmen include: attack Nathalie Ahn, midfielder Essie Atherton, midfielder Lydia Bongiorno, attack Lily Hagerup, midfielder Emmie Lau, midfielder Mia Mascone, attack Gabby Sartori and defender Katie Silver.
THREE IVIES RANKED IN NATIONAL POLL
The Ivy League - a consistent factor in the national women's lacrosse landscape - boasts a trio of ranked teams entering the 2020 season. No. 6 Princeton, No. 12 Penn and No. 22 Dartmouth were listed in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preseason Poll.
