SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Bryant, 12-7, for the Ocean State Cup in its season opener on Saturday at Beirne Stadium. The Bulldogs scored the game's first goal but the Bears answered with four-straight and held the lead the rest of the way for their first win of the year.
Junior Risa Mosenthal (Campton, N.H.) led Brown (1-0) with five goals and an assist while six other Bears recorded a goal, including two from freshman Mia Mascone (Irvington, N.Y.). Sophomore Erin Tucker (Centerport, N.Y.) turned away six shots in net, three in each half, while junior Allison Lanzone (Wayne, Pa.) and sophomore Jordan Torres (Andover, Mass.) each caused two turnovers for the defense.
The Bulldogs were led by Natalie Langella who had a hat trick and Maggie Presseler who contributed two goals and an assist.
"It was a great team win," said head coach Keely McDonald. "I thought my staff and the team prepared well for our opener. We look forward to getting to work for our next game."
