
Women’s Hockey Opens Second Half Against St. Lawrence and No. 5/6 Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will open 2020 with a home ECAC series against St. Lawrence on Friday, Jan. 10 at 6:00 p.m. and versus No. 5/6 Clarkson on Saturday, Jan. 11 beginning at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Friday's contest against the Saints will also appear on NESNplus.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence enters Friday's matchup with a 7-7-5 overall record and a 2-3-2 showing in ECAC play. The Saints have won two-straight and are unbeaten in their last four games, going 2-0-2. St. Lawrence opened the New Year on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Syracuse. Kayla Vespa leads the squad in goals (11), assists (11) and points (22). Anna Segedi ranks second in scoring with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists. Lucy Morgan has seen the most action between the pipes with 11 starts and a 1.58 goals-against average, a .937 save percentage and two shutouts. Caitlin Whitehead and Jaimie Rainville have each started four games with Whitehead leading the duo with a 2.31 GAA and a .897 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE CLARKSON
Clarkson enters the weekend ranked fifth in the USCHO.com Poll and sixth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll with a 14-2-4 overall record and a 5-1-2 mark in the ECAC. Clarkson ranks fourth in the nation in goals (68) and also paces the ECAC in power-play goals (17) which is tied for eighth nationally. Prior to playing the Bears, the Golden Knights will compete at Yale on Friday. Clarkson has won four-straight and are unbeaten in its last five contests, with its last loss coming to No. 8 Princeton, 2-1, on Nov. 22. Elizabeth Giguère leads the team in scoring with 35 points on a team-high 21 goals and 14 assists. Her 21 goals and 1.05 goals per game average are tops in the country. Gabrielle David is second with 25 points on seven goals and a team-best 18 assists. Marie-Pier Coulombe leads the goaltending unit with 15 starts, a 1.30 goals-against average, a .941 save percentage and three shutouts. Amanda Zeglen has started five games and has contributed a 2.97 GAA and .868 save percentage
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Sophomore Shay Maloney leads the Bears in scoring this season with team-highs in goals (4), assists (4) and points (8). She has an assist in each of her last two games. Junior Megan Forrest (2-3-5) is second on the team in scoring after recording two points (1-1-2) in her first two season. Calla Isaac leads the netminding group with nine games played and a .900 save percentage. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native stopped a career-best 55 shots at Harvard on Nov. 1 and turned away 31 shots in a 2-1 win over RPI on Nov. 8. She has recorded 40 or more saves three times this season and had gone over 30 stops in six contests. Sophomore Hayley Kliczko has also seen significant time between the pipes with six appearances. She registered a season-high 39 saves at Dartmouth on Nov. 2 and also made 32 stops versus Harvard in the team's last game on Dec. 7.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown last played the first weekend of December in back-to-back overtime games. The Bears tied Dartmouth, 2-2, on Dec. 6 and lost to Harvard, 3-2, in overtime on Dec. 7. Juniors Megan Forrest and Abby Nearis (PP) provided the scoring for Brown against the Big Green while sophomores Lizzy Gross and Mel Anderson recorded scores against the Crimson. Nearis' game-tying tally came at 9:51 of the third period while Anderson's goal versus Harvard was her first career tally. Sophomore Hayley Kliczko made 19 saves in Friday's contest and 32 stops in the weekend finale.
LAST SEASON VS. ST. LAWRENCE
The Bears went 0-1-1 against the Saints last season, losing the first contest, 4-1, on Nov. 17 in Providence and tying the series finale, 3-3, in Canton, N.Y. on Jan. 18. Junior Kaitijane Blumberg scored in both contests, which included a shorthanded tally in game one and the game-tying score in the third period of game two. Senior Calla Issac logged 40 saves in the overtime matchup which included 17 stops in the second period.
LAST SEASON VS. CLARKSON
The Golden Knights took both games in last season's series with a 9-1 win in Providence (Nov. 16) and a 6-0 victory on home ice (Jan. 19).
