
Women’s Hockey Tripped Up at Union, 3-1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Union, 3-1, on Friday night at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen took an early first period lead and scored twice in the second for the victory. Sophomore Jacquie Tam (Toronto, Ontario) recorded the Bears' lone goal in the contest, her second tally of the season.
Union (3-16-5, 3-6-3 ECAC) took a 1-0 lead at 14:00 of the first period on a goal by Leah Herrfort. Sophomore Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) concluded the opening stanza with 10 saves while Brown (1-14-1, 1-9-1 ECAC) was 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
Megan Ryan increased the Dutchwomen's lead to 2-0 at 4:51 of the second before Tam recorded a power-play goal at 11:42 from the left faceoff circle to pull the Bears within one. Junior Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and senior Lucinda Quigley (Newton, Mass.) added the assists on the score.
Ryan later added her second of the game at 16:11 on the power play to give Union another two-goal lead. The Dutchwomen went 1-for-2 on the power play in the frame while Brown was 1-for-3.
Both teams were kept off the board in the third period with Union outshooting Brown by a 10-8 margin. The Bears fought off two penalties, while not allowing a shot on each penalty kill, and went 0-for-1 on the power play in the third.
Kliczko wrapped up the night with 31 saves, her third game this season with 30 or more saves, while Bella Mckee concluded the matchup with 17 save at the other end.
Overall, Brown was 1-for-3 on the power play while Union was 1-for-4.
Sophomore Mel Anderson (Plymouth, Mich.) led the Bears with five shots on the night while Tam contributed four.
Brown will next close out the season series with RPI tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 18) at 3:00 p.m.
