
Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Columbia on Saturday for Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will close out the 2019 season at home, hosting Columbia on Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. Following the game, the Bears will honor their seven seniors.

BROWN SENIOR CLASS
The Bears will honor their seven seniors, student manager Sophie MacFarlane, student coach Caitlyn O'Berry, Caroline Zaffino, Hafsa Moinuddin, Olivia Lee, Grace Plassche and Zoe Verni, in a brief postgame ceremony on Saturday.
BEAR LEADERS
Sophomore Risa Mosenthal leads the Bears in both goals and points with 49 goals and eight assists for 57 points. The attacker broke the school record for goals in a game on March 31 against Fresno State, logging nine scores which also tied the Ivy League record. Junior Emma DeGennaro ranks second on the team in scoring with 38 points on 31 goals and seven helpers. Sophomore Maggie Fowler leads the Bears in assists with 23 and has nine goals for 32 points, third highest on the team. Mosenthal leads the conference in goals and is fourth in points while Fowler is tied for fourth in assists. Defensively, sophomore Mason Warble has a team high 28 caused turnovers, good for second in the conference. Rookie Claire Jeschke paces the Bears in draw controls with 37 while junior KC Williams has 33. Freshman Erin Tucker has started all 14 games in net and has put together a 11.81 goals-against average and a .430 save percentage. She is tied for second in the conference in saves per game (8.54) and has registered double-digit stops in eight contests this year.
CENTURY MARK
Sophomore Risa Mosenthal eclipsed the 100 goal mark for her career against Fresno State on March 31 and now has 104 career goals, good for fifth all-time in the Brown record book. Suzanne Bailey '91 holds the record for career scores with 141.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Emma DeGennaro scored four of her five goals in the second half to help Brown overcome an 8-4 deficit and defeat Harvard, 10-9, on Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears went on a 6-1 run over the last 15 minutes to pull off the comeback. Four of DeGennaro's goals came on the free position. Freshman Claire Jeschke also added two goals and an assist while fellow rookie Sophia DeRosa put in two scores. Trailing 6-3 after one half, Harvard pushed its lead up to four (8-4) at 21:13 of the second on a score from Keeley MacAfee. From there, Brown mounted its comeback with two-straight free-position goals by DeGennaro at 14:27 and 13:32 for a two-goal deficit. The Crimson got one back at 10:46 but the Bears closed the final period with four consecutive free-position goals for the victory. DeRosa notched the first score of the sequence at 7:59 and was soon followed by DeGennaro at 7:15. Sophomore Risa Mosenthal scored the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining while Jeschke recorded the game winner with three minutes left.
ALL-TIME VS. COLUMBIA
The Bears hold a 19-2 all-time series advantage over the Lions. Columbia captured last year's meeting, 14-12, in New York City, while Brown's last win came in 2017, 14-13, in overtime at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia is 4-10 this season and is 1-5 in Ivy League action, having defeated Harvard, 15-14, for its lone conference win on April 6. The Lions have lost two straight since then, versus Yale (17-10, Apr. 13) and No. 12 Penn (21-7, Apr. 20). Lindsay Ewertsen leads Columbia in points with 52 on 24 goals and a team-high 28 assists. Alexandria Absey has the team's goal lead with 30 and also has four assists for 34 points, second-best on the team. Defensively, Ewertsen leads the league and team in caused turnovers with 43 while her 28 helpers are third. She also has 67 draw controls on the season. Abby Roberts has appeared in all 14 games between the pipes with 10 starts, a 13.25 goals-against average and a .423 save percentage while Ryan Schlageter has appeared in eight games, with four starts, and has a 16.71 GAA and a .337 save percentage.
MOSENTHAL ADDED TO TEWAARATON WATCH LIST
Sophomore attack Risa Mosenthal was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List in the first round of additions on March 21 in an announcement by the organization. Mosenthal leads Brown in goals (49) and points (57). The Campton, N.H. native has recorded at least a hat trick in nine of her 13 games played this season. Nationally, Mosenthal is 10th in goals per game (3.77) and eighth in free position goals per game (1.38). Her 49 scores this year are tied for third best in a season at Brown behind her rookie total of 55 while her 57 points are seventh best for a season. As a freshman, Mosenthal led the Bears in scoring with 64 points while also notching a team-high 55 goals on her way to Second Team All-Ivy honors.
BEARS LEAD THE IVY LEAGUE IN CAUSED TURNOVERS
Brown leads the Ivy League in caused turnovers, averaging 11.36 per game. Warble's 2.08 caused turnovers per game are second best in the conference. Brown also ranks 14th in the nation in the category.
