
Women’s Lacrosse Closes Out Away Slate at Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will close out its road slate for the regular season and travel to Cornell on Saturday, April 13 for a 1:00 p.m. game.

BEAR LEADERS
Sophomore Risa Mosenthal leads the Bears in both goals and points with 48 goals and six assists for 54 points. The attacker broke the school record for goals in a game on March 31 against Fresno State, logging nine scores which also tied the Ivy League record. Junior Emma DeGennaro ranks second on the team in scoring with 33 points on 26 goals and seven helpers. Sophomore Maggie Fowler leads the Bears in assists with 23 and has eight goals for 31 points, third highest on the team. Mosenthal leads the conference in goals and is second in points while Fowler is fifth in assists. Defensively, sophomore Mason Warble has a team high 22 caused turnovers, good for third in the conference. Rookie Claire Jeschke paces the Bears in draw controls with 37 while junior KC Williams has 27. Freshman Erin Tucker has started all 12 games in net and has put together a 12.28 goals-against average and a .424 save percentage. She is third in the conference in saves (8.42 per game) and has registered double-digit stops in seven contests this year.
CENTURY MARK
Sophomore Risa Mosenthal eclipsed the 100 goal mark for her career against Fresno State on March 31 and has 103 for her career, good for fifth all-time in the Brown record book. Suzanne Bailey '91 holds the record for career scores with 141.
LAST TIME OUT
In a tightly contested Ivy League game, No. 9 Penn came away as the victor, scoring the game winner with 1:57 remaining to defeat Brown, 9-8, last Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Junior KC Williams led the Bears in scoring, recording her second-straight hat trick of the season while sophomore Risa Mosenthal and freshman Alaina Parisella each added two goals. Brown held an 8-6 lead with 16:31 remaining in the second on a Mosenthal goal but Penn fought back to knot the contest at eight with an extra attacker score from Erin Barry at 13:22 and a tally from Zoe Belodeau at 11:18. Both teams were held scoreless with solid defensive play until 1:57 when Gabby Rosenweig recorded what proved to be the game winner. The Bears won the ensuing draw control and had two free-position shots that were saved by Makail Cheeseman at 0:54 and 0:41. Penn then ran out the clock with possession to hold on for the victory.

The Big Red hold a 23-14 all-time series advantage against the Bears. Brown captured last year's meeting, edging the then No. 23 Big Red, 14-13, at Stevenson-Pincince Field on April 7. Cornell last won in 2017, an 11-8 decision in Ithaca, N.Y.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is 7-4 overall and 3-1 in Ivy League play, having defeated Harvard (11-5, Mar. 2), Columbia (12-9, Mar. 9) and Yale (18-12, Apr. 6) with its lone conference loss coming at No. 6 Penn (11-10, Mar. 23). The Big Red are riding a three-game win streak with victories over Binghamton (23-5, Apr. 27) and Rutgers (15-7, Apr. 2) as well as Yale. Caroline Allen leads the Big Red in points with 45 on team-highs in both goals (31) and assists (14). Sarah Phillips is second in scoring with 29 goals and six assists for 35 points. Allen also has Cornell's lead in caused turnovers and draw controls with 11 and 40, respectively. Katie McGahan has started 10 of the Big Red's 11 games in net and has an 8.89 goals-against average and a .474 save percentage.

Sophomore attack Risa Mosenthal was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List in the first round of additions on March 21 in an announced by the organization. Mosenthal leads Brown in goals (48) and points (54). The Campton, N.H. native has recorded at least a hat trick in nine of her 11 games played this season and has registered at least two goals in every career game (26 games played). Nationally, Mosenthal is fourth in goals per game (4.36) and sixth in free position goals per game (1.55). Her 48 scores this year are tied for third best in a season at Brown (Sue Cutler '88) while her 54 points are eighth best for a season. As a freshman, Mosenthal led the Bears in scoring with 64 points while also notching a team-high 55 goals on her way to Second Team All-Ivy honors.
BEARS RANK SECOND IN THE IVY LEAGUE IN CAUSED TURNOVERS
Brown ranks second in the Ivy League in caused turnovers, averaging 11.33 per game, trailing only Princeton (11.80). Sophomore Mason Warble leads the Bears with 22 caused turnovers while senior Zoe Verni and junior Emily Fryer have 15 apiece. Warble's 1.83 caused turnovers per game are third best in the conference.
