LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Brown baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to No. 8 Louisville, 13-2, in a contest that started on Saturday and concluded Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Â
The two teams played eight innings on Saturday, before the game was postponed due to rain. The game resumed on Sunday as the Cardinals wrapped up the win to improve to 5-2 overall. Brown moved to 0-3 on the season.
Â
"There were many positive takeaways from this series, and we battled a very quality opponent for three games," said head coach Grant Achilles. "We're excited to get back to work this week, and improve our consistency of execution. This weekend made us a better team, and we will see that play out over the rest of the season."
Â
Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.), Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) and Dalton Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) all posted multiple-hit games for the Bears, while Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) drove in one run. Six different players accounted for the team's nine-hit effort.
Â
Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) gave up five earned runs over six innings to go along with three strikeouts as the starter. Rookie Ryan Kuntz (Minneapolis, Minn.) provided a hitless frame with two strikeouts in relief. Bryan Hoeing earned the win for the Cardinals.
Â
Brown struck first in the third inning when Homza doubled and then scored on a single by Phillips to center field. Louisville came back with three runs on a trio of hits in the bottom half for the two-run lead.
Â
The Bears chipped away with one run in the sixth as Lomuscio hit an RBI single to right field, but the Cardinals added three more runs in the same frame, using one error and two hits to move in front, 6-2.
Â
Louisville scored seven runs on five hits and one error in the eighth frame to secure the victory.
Â
Brown will visit Presbyterian for a four-game series next weekend.
