PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated seventh-seeded Yale, 4-3, on the second day of the ECAC Championship on Saturday at the Hecht Tennis Center.
"What a fantastic team effort today," said head coach Tim Gray. "We didn't play our best tennis from top to bottom today, but we fought extremely hard at every position. That's what we will need to do in every match. I am really proud of the way these guys came together today."
The Bears captured the doubles point with junior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) combining for a 6-2 win in second singles. After Yale tied the round, senior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) and freshman Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) teamed up for a 6-4 win in the first spot to clinch the point.
In singles, Walker opened with a 7-5, 6-2 win in first singles to give Brown a 2-0 lead before Yale went on a run and pulled ahead in the match 3-2 with wins in the second, first and third spot. The Bears closed strong as Tan recorded a hard fought 7-5, 7-5 win in fifth singles while freshman Robert Siniakowicz (West Windsor, N.J.) sealed the match, coming from behind in sixth singles, 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-1.
