
Women’s Hockey Defeated by No. 6 Cornell, 4-1

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 6 Cornell, 4-1, on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red scored a goal in the first and third periods and added two scores in the second. Junior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) registered a season-high 45 saves in net, three short of her career high.
Despite 18 saves in the opening frame by Isaac, Cornell (17-3-6, 14-3-2 ECAC) took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission with a score by Gillis Frechette at 12:28.
Freshman Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) tied the game for Brown (5-19-2, 2-15-2 ECAC) with her fifth goal of the season at 9:34 of the second period with junior Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) and senior Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) both assisting the tally. It's the second-straight game Maloney has netted a goal and third-consecutive contest she has recorded at point.
After two successful penalty kills by the Bears, the Big Red capitalized on their third power-play of the second when Maddie Mills put in the extra skater score at 11:37 to hand the lead back to Cornell. Jaime Bourbonnais quickly extended the Big Red's lead to two at 12:52.
Mills added her second power-play goal of the game at 2:23 to open the third period and conclude the scoring on the night for a 4-1 Cornell advantage.
Brown was 0-for-4 overall on the power play while Cornell was 2-for-5.
Isaac recorded her third 40+ save performance of the season with 45 stops while Marlene Boissonnault turned away nine shots in the opposing net.
Brown will play its final road game of the season tomorrow (Feb. 16) at No. 9 Colgate starting at 3:00 p.m. at Class of 1965 Arena.
