
Men’s Hockey Set for Road Trip at Union, RPI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will head to the New York Capital Region for a pair of conference games at Union (12/6) and Rensselaer (12/7) this weekend. Friday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+, while Saturday's game will air on RPITV.

Last Time Out
Brown dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 13 Providence College on Saturday in the 34th annual Mayor's Cup contest. Trey Dodd gave the Bears an early lead at 2:48 in the first, but the Friars scored four unanswered goals, including three in the middle period. Cole Quisenberry also scored in the contest for his first career collegiate goal. Gavin Nieto made 31 saves in the loss and posted at least 30 saves for the third time this season. The two teams combined for 13 penalties.
Scouting Union
The Dutchmen will return to action after a two-week break and most recently topped Princeton in overtime, 2-1, to snap a four-game skid. Union ranks last in the ECAC in scoring at 1.50 goals per game and is 8.6 percent on the power play. Zachary Emelifeonwu and Sean Harrison lead the lineup with three goals apiece, while Anthony Rinaldi is the top playmaker with six assists and eight points. Darion Hanson has started all 14 games in net and enters Friday with a 3.09 GAA and a .902 save percentage. Union finished seventh in the ECAC standings last season and reached the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

Brown and Union will play in the 58th all-time meeting between the two conference foes on Friday, dating back to a 3-2 Union victory on December 30, 1989. The Bears hold a 25-20-13 series advantage and went 2-0-1 against the Dutchmen last season, adding a non-conference win in the championship game of the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh.
Scouting Rensselaer
RPI is 1-4-1 over the last six games and most recently dropped a pair of non-conference road tilts at UMass Lowell and Merrimack last weekend. The Engineers are fifth among ECAC teams in scoring at 3.07 goals per game with an 18.9 percent clip on the power play, and are allowing 3.91 goals per game. Defenseman Will Reilly leads the team in goals (6), assists (6) and points (6). He also has a team-best three power-play goals. Owen Savory is 3-6-1 in ten starts and heads into the weekend with a 3.21 GAA and an .893 save percentage. RPI placed 11th in the ECAC standings last season and fell to Yale in the first round of the tournament.

Justin Jallen racked up seven goals in the month of November, which led all ECAC skaters, and was tied for the most in the nation during that span. He also led the team with 27 shots and added a hat trick against Yale. Brown was 3-1 when he scored a goal during November.

Defenseman Zach Giuttari is tied for third among ECAC skaters in power-play points with 1-4-5, factoring into 71 percent of the team's power-play goals this season.

Brown has faced tough competition early on this season, as four of the ten games were played against opponents ranked in the top 15 of the national rankings at the time of the contest.
