
Women’s Soccer Totals Four First Team All-New England Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson, junior center back Sydney Cummings, senior midfielder Abby Carchio, and freshman forward Brittany Raphino have all earned First Team All-New England honors, the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) announced on Thursday.
Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) ranked as the leading vote getter among all Division I student-athletes while Thompson (Austin, Texas) and Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) stood as the top vote getters at the goalkeeper and forward positions respectively. All four student-athletes also gained First Team All-Ivy accolades this fall.
Thompson earned First Team All-Ivy, First Team All-East Region, Third Team Scholar All-America, and First Team Scholar All-East Region accolades after joining the Bears as a transfer from West Virginia University. She ranked sixth in the NCAA in save percentage (.892) and ninth in goals-against average (0.44). Thompson led the Ivy League in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts (nine), while ranking third in total saves (58) and fourth in saves per game (3.63).
Cummings garnered Second Team All-America, First Team All-Ivy unanimously, First Team All-East Region, First Team Scholar All-America, and First Team Scholar All-East Region accolades this fall. She played all 1,790 minutes on the season, while ranking third in the Ivy League in assists (seven). For her career, she has played 4,803 of a possible 4,822 minutes (99.6 percent). She led a Brown defense that ranked second in the NCAA in goals allowed (eight), third in save percentage (.890), and fourth in GAA (0.40), while setting a program record with 13 shutouts.
A three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) finished her career ranked 15th all-time at Brown in career points (49), 16th in career goals (16), and eighth in career assists (17). This fall she earned First Team All-Ivy and Second Team All-East Region honors, while gaining a spot in the NEWISA Senior Bowl and selection as a Senior CLASS Award candidate. In Ivy League play in 2019 she ranked first in assists (three) and fourth in points (seven).
Raphino gained Ivy League Rookie of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Ivy unanimously, First Team All-East Region, and Second Team Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI honors this fall. For the season, she ranked sixth in the Ivy League in points (19), second in goals (eight), and first in game-winning goals (three), while standing first in goals (four), second in points (nine), and second in game winners (two) in Ivy play only.
In 2019, the Bears posted an overall record of 14-2-3, while registering an undefeated 6-0-1 mark in Ivy League play, finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the first time since 1994. Brown notched an 11-0-1 mark at home, including an 11-0-0 record during the regular season.
Brown won its 13th Ivy League title in program history, tied for the most in conference history, while making its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Bears advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after topping Monmouth in a penalty kick shootout, 4-1.
In the final national rankings, Brown stood at No. 11 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, No. 13 in the NCAA RPI, and No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
